Fata Morgana and pingo

The weather phenomena called Fata Morgana occurs only where there are alternating warm and cold layers of air near the ground. Light is bent towards the colder air, resulting in an inverted mirage of a distant object. The geological feature of a pingo on Alaska's Arctic Coastal Plain appears inverted by this phenomenon.
