Commercial Fishing

Commercial fishing is an essential industry in Alaska. Various types of seafood harvesting occur across Alaska's vast coastline, from the far western Aleutian islands to the southeastern panhandle. Alaska's Wild Salmon, Herring, Shellfish, and groundfish are sought-after products in the seafood marketplace. The popular television program Deadliest Catch has brought the perils of fishing in the turbulent seas to the forefront. The industry faces many challenges and potential threats.
