Coldfoot

Coldfoot today is primarily a truck stop on the Dalton Highway, which services the oil fields of Prudhoe Bay on Alaska's Arctic Coast. In its former day, the town was a Slate Creek mining camp. Coldfoot got its name about 1900 when prospectors traveling up the Middle Fork of the Koyukuk would get "cold feet" and turn around.
