The Alaska Peninsula juts out from mainland Alaska and arcs westward before turning into a series of dotted islands called the Aleutian Chain. It is a highly remote part of the state, and access is limited due to the lack of roads. It is also part of the Pacific Rim of Fire and is lined with rugged mountains and active volcanoes.
