The Island known as Kodiak off Alaska's southern coast is called the emerald island for a good reason, it is lavished in green for much of the year. Its convoluted rugged shores are productive grounds for a healthy commercial salmon fishing industry. The giant Kodiak brown bear is a famous icon of the Island.
